CLASS INFORMATION
Children Class
Kendo is a great martial art for building character. Confidence, respect, and discipline are probably terms you have seen in almost every martial art program description. Kendo embraces those terms, but Kendo places a strong importance on the notion of self-awareness and respecting and understanding themselves in order to respect and understand others around them. A good age for a young child to start Kendo is around 8 years of age.
Children are taught basic physical aspects of Kendo and trained to develop small, and large muscle groups, flexibility, and balance. We want to make sure they enjoy Kendo and have fun, while the theories and philosophies of Kendo are slowly delivered to them in “bite sizes.”
Saftey is our priority for your child. Our instructors will guide all young students with extra caution to make the learning atmosphere fun and safe.
Youth Class
Our youth class (teenagers), can benefit significantly from Kendo. Not only is martial arts great for self-development, but Kendo can help in building life skills such as leadership and teamwork.
Did you also know that Kendo is a great subject when it comes to extra-curriculum credit when applying for college? Many top colleges in the United States have Kendo clubs. If they know Kendo by the time they get to college, it will be a great transition in being able to join a community of new friends.
Adult Class
Kendo is for all ages. Young adults to senior citizens, you can learn and practice Kendo at your own pace in our safe learning environment. Among all the other benefits of Kendo, one of the greatest benefits is stress relief. Stress is a leading cause of bad health, and Kendo can help you fume off your daily stress from work and life in general.
Kendo also attracts people from all paths of life, careers, and culture. Our school is a great place to network and socialize through the practice of Kendo.

Frequently Asked Questions
CAN KENDO HELP WITH TEMPER TANTRUMS?
Yes, it can. We help children learn the importance of emotional control and respect for others. These are lessons that will help them in the classroom, too.
WILL KENDO IMPROVE PERSISTENCE?
Yes. It’s common for students to require more than one attempt to earn a new rank. We teach them that trying is the most important thing – and that persistence pays off.
WILL MY CHILD LEARN RESPECT AND DISCIPLINE?
Respect is at the core of everything we do in the dojo. Kids who study Kendo must respect their instructors and fellow students, and we find that they learn to respect parents, teachers, caregivers, and siblings at the same time.
WON’T KENDO MAKE MY KIDS WANT TO FIGHT?
No, we teach children that violence is not the answer to their problems through teaching the passive and peaceful ideologies in Kendo.
CAN KENDO HELP FROM BEING A BULLY VICTIM?
Kids and teens who study Kendo learn to carry themselves with strength and confidence, and that makes them less likely to be targeted by bullies. They also learn how to defend themselves if necessary.
MY TEENAGER STARTS THINGS AND GIVES THEM UP ALL THE TIME. WHY SHOULD I EXPECT KENDO TO BE DIFFERENT?
Kids and teens who want to excel in Kendo must make a commitment to continued study. We can’t guarantee that your child or teen will stick to it, but we can tell you that our instructors encourage persistence and teach teens that they can’t achieve their goals if they give up.
WILL KENDO TEACH SELF-CONTROL?
Kendo instruction focuses on hand-eye coordination, control, and strength. As kids learn basic moves and then advance, they learn how to control their bodies and movements.
WILL KENDO HELP WITH SOCIAL SKILLS?
Yes. Even though studying Kendo is an individual pursuit, we teach everyone to learn in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on sharing, cooperation, and teamwork.
WILL KENDO HELP BUILD FOCUS?
Yes. Part of Kendo training is teaching everyone to be mindful of themselves and their surroundings. Everyone must focus to succeed in class, and once they learn to do it, they’ll be able to do the same thing at work or school.
